Known as one of the flavours of Japan, miso is loved around the world for its addictively salty, umami taste and its many great health benefits. But have you ever thought of making it yourself at home?!

With a few simple ingredients, a little time and patience, and the knowledge shared by our friend Mandy Hall, you'll be well equipped to start your own miso making journey from your very own kitchen.

In this 2.5 hour hands-on masterclass, you'll learn about the basics of koji and how to ferment a truly traditional and versatile miso. Mandy will dive into the ingredients needed to make miso from scratch and the specific fermentation process, including seasonal impacts, traditional Japanese methods and other beautiful aspects of this incredible ferment.

After you've finished your own batch of miso to take home, store and ferment, Jessie & Taylor will finish off the night by cooking a light dinner showcasing different ways to cook with miso while we chat through our favourite recipes!

    About Mandy Hall

    Having undertaken a residency with Sandor Katz in his home in Tennessee, nothing would ever be the same again -  Mandy Hall is an ex MasterChef contestant that is incredibly passionate about all aspects of fermentation, preservation and from-scratch cooking. She is a part of a global fermentation teaching school, she's a recipe writer, workshop presenter, media contributor and all-round lover of real food.

    Book with a group of friends or come along solo! Our workshops are informative, hands-on, fun & totally suitable for absolutely anyone. No prior knowledge of fermentation is needed.

    Please select the number of tickets you'd like to book at the checkout. All workshops are held at the My Grandma Ben eatery in Plant 4, Bowden. A reminder email will be sent 2 days before the workshop. Please familiarise yourself with our Booking Terms & Conditions before placing your order.

    Booking with a gift voucher

    If you have been gifted a Workshop E-Gift Voucher (this would have been emailed or given to you with a unique online code), you are able to put this amount towards any upcoming workshop. Simply enter your unique gift code at the checkout. If you have a physical cardboard gift voucher, you will need to send us an email to book into a workshop as these are not redeemable online.
